Call to Action for Microfiction writers (and readers!)
HELLO! MicroStack has been in the works for a while now, though I didn’t know it would be called MicroStack back then. The name hit me like a ton of bricks on the morning of June 1st and I ran with it!
We are still very much in our infancy. The bulk of what it is and who it’s for relies 100% on you, the reader. MicroStack, in my head, is a sort of backdoor utopia in the most insignificant of libraries…
Enter, if you dare, but know that once inside this secret area you will be met with all kinds of wonders to behold. We have quite spaces and places to write short missives to your hearts content. Pour your soul into each word, making them count, then stick them to our wall of wonders for everyone and anyone who may wander through.
Stay for a while or forever. The choice is yours. But while you’re here we intend on serving up exercises to get your mind working as well as great works to inspire conversation and inspiration.
So, who exactly is MicroStack for?
If you write short short stories. Meaning, stories that are under 500 words in length.
If you write fiction of any length.
If you have never and vowed to never write or go anywhere near microfiction.
If writing microfiction is something you’ve been intrigued by but find intimidating.
While you’re here, consider subscribing for great microfiction, lessons and exercises to guide you through mastering the craft, and more! Did I mention The Shorties yet? I didn’t…well…more on those later!

If you or someone you know isn’t listed on the MicroFiction Directory, please fill out the Google Form below with all relevant information. We are working to add people as quickly as we find them but we need your help!
And don’t worry if you’re not on the list yet because you can be added just by participating in MicroStack! That’s right! More info on that to come!
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
To start off MicroStack we want your small but mighty stories! The way this will work is still being worked out behind the scenes but what we are looking for couldn’t be more simple:
Stories of varying lengths UNDER 500 words.
Any genre is acceptable but we reserve the right to turn away anything that can be considered extreme in content or violence.
Should be written in English.
AI generated stories not accepted (duh!).
There are more rules and guidelines to follow that I won’t list here but if you’re interested in having your story published on MicroStack be sure to subscribe now. Submissions will open on July 1st via Google Forms!
WHAT’S COMING THIS SUMMER
Let’s spend this Summer making the most of the lovely weather and use our experiences (vacations, trips, outings, etc.) to put it in microfiction form! Here are some things you can look forward to starting in July and taking us through the end of September:
Exercises and challenges open to everyone of any genre!
Interviews and discussions on how many of us “experts” are able to write and write and write so much microfiction. There will likely be some familiar faces that we all know and love already from the microfiction world seen here! 😏
The Shorties! The first official contest for microfiction writers old and new to the storytelling format. More on this in the coming weeks that you won’t want to miss!
I am truly geeking out at the possibilities of seeing everyone come to our little corner of the Substack universe to take microfiction and put it ON THE MAP where it should be!
